What are Community Standards?
Many students believe that someone else (i.e., an RA, Public Safety, CD) is responsible for making sure residents get exactly what they want. But This is not true. Residents have a voice and are encourage to use their voice to get what is needed or wanted done.
- Community Standards are the agreements made by the residents on a given community concerning how they will relate to and treat each other.
- Community Standards are a process by which individuals begin forming a healthy living environment and community through dialogue, compromise, and commitment.
- Community Standards are constantly evolving and therefore the process is never finished.
- Because Community Standards evolve, they should not be thought of as a task to be completed, rather as a means by which interactions occur.
